Santa Maria CYO Basketball

 This 2011-2012 season, Santa Maria has 34 teams, 23 boys teams & 10 girls teams. In the past years practice times have been very tight. This year, we secured Del Rey's Gym again for the  3rd Grade teams. We also secured Bentley High School's gym for more practice time for our older players. With four gyms, that gives all 33 teams the opportunity to have 2 practices a week. We have put endless hours into phone calls & meeting with the personnel from these facilities to secure them.   

We rent all these gyms & there is a price. We need to clean up after every practice & every game. Parents, please remind your players to STAY OFF THE STAGES at Del Rey  & Wagner Ranch School. Also to throw their trash away (water bottles, food wrappers etc) at all the gyms.

Please leave the gyms promptly when your practice time is concluded.  This is particularly important at OIS.

Scheduling practice days and times is an unbelievably complex job. Our goal is to schedule TWO - one hour practices a week for 3rd - 5th grades and TWO 1.5 hours practices a week for 6th, 7th & 8th Grade. In January we lose gyms, all teams will go to 1 practice per week. 

Our younger teams (3^{rd &} 4^th) will receive the earliest practice times and the older teams (7^th-8^th) will receive the late gym times. The 5^th & 6^th grade times will vary based on availability. They will practice at both the early and late times.

Quality gyms in our geographic area that are available are very tough to secure. We are fortunate to have the facilities and times we currently have. Presently, we are one of the few CYO Programs that offer two practice times per week.

Unfortunately, we will experience some gym closures. A few of these closures come with limited notification. We ask that remain patient when these do occur as they do each year. Please check the website for gym closures on a daily basis.
