Each year Santa Maria CYO Basketball will hold evaluations. The purpose of the evaluation is to evaluate each player's ability in order to place him/her on a team closest to his/her ability level. This is done based upon current ability, without regard to prior participation on a team.
Requests to be on a certain team, or to be with/not with certain players will be considered, but seldom honored, in forming a team. Whenever possible, independent people who know basketball will be asked to help evaluate the players. This would include local high school, college, AAU and prior CYO coaches.
Players must make every possible effort to attend the scheduled evaluation session. Santa Maria will offer one make up evalutiaon session, which is mandatory for any child who did not attend the FIRST evalution date. Players who do not attend evaluations may not be offered spots on a team.
If you are not able to make the first evaluation date you should notify the Athletic Director. Please note it is very difficult to evaluate a player for an American Level Team when they show up "Only" to the Make Up Evaluation.
Please have your player(s) wear a reversible jersey and basketball shoes. Bring a reusable water bottle. Do not bring basketballs. All other equipment will be provided for evaluations. Girls must wear their hair in a pony tail.
After the American teams have been formed, the Board Commissioners will start to look for volunteer coaches. Once coaches have been put in place, the draft process will start. This process will take a few weeks. If you would like to sign up to coach or have questions about coaching, please contact Kelly Sopak (girls) at ksopak@comcast.net or Kurt Braitberg (boys) at kbraitberg@gmail.com
The Santa Maria Board looks forward to a fantastic 2011-2012 season.
